Google I/O Takeaways
The 2021 Google I/O went virtual and offered an impressive lineup of 250 keynotes, sessions and workshops.

  • Google Play Billing: new apps must use Billing Library v3 or v4 from August 2 (Existing apps from November 1);
  • Flutter 2.2: In-App Purchases plugin in production (replay);
  • Progressive Web App: Digital Goods API and Payment Request API to receive payments with Google Play Billing are now available (GitHub repository).

Apple WWDC
Apple is holding its annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) this week. It is a five-day event and will go on until June 11, 2021.
  • The keynote presentation starts tonight at 7 pm Central European Time or 10 am Pacific Time. It can be watched via the Apple website and its official YouTube channel.
  • Developer sessions will be available online via the Apple Developer site or the Apple Developer app.

Twitter is launching new ‘Blue’ subscription service.
Twitter has listed ‘Twitter Blue’ an In-App purchase, priced at £2.49 in the UK and $2.99 in the US, on app stores. An indication that the social media giant is looking to diversify its revenues via Subscription model.
Jane Manchun Wong, a tech blogger from Hong Kong claims to be the 1st paying user and hints that ‘Twitter Blue’ enables:
✳️ Undo tweet;
✳️ Color theme;
✳️ Custom App Icon.
On June 3, Twitter says on its official blog it’s introducing its first-ever subscription offering with the select markets of Canada and Australia ($3.49 CAD or $4.49 AUD).
